Finding the lead actor for Rainbow Jelly was a task

Soukarya Ghosal said he was not convinced whether Mahabrata Basu, who was diagnosed with septicaemia right after his birth, could pull off the lead role in Rainbow Jelly. “Ghoton, the character, comes from an aristocratic family. When I etched out the role, I wrote that when he smiled, it would light up the skies. After Moushumi di (Bhowmik) told me about Mahabrata and I went for an audition, it took me a while to decide.Meanwhile, as we talked, he laughed, and I immediately knew that he was the one I was looking for,” said the director. It was also tough convincing his producer that Mahabrata could fit the part like no other. “The producer who had first agreed to fund the food fantasy film, backed out on seeing my lead actor, Mahabrata Basu. He suggested that I take his son since Ghoton, the protagonist, brought to his mind the image of a chubby child. I was not convinced. My wife said we’ll produce it ourselves, and that’s what we did,” said the director.
