Film taps into Kishore's legend

Anurag Basu couldn't, but Kaushik Ganguly may still do it. The amazing life and times of Kishore Kumar was to be the subject of Anurag's biopic on the singer, starring Ranbir Kapoor, that got shelved after some progress. Now Kaushik Ganguly is attempting a film which won't be a biopic, but will tap into the myth, aura and legend of the maverick named Kishore Kumar.Kaushik's film, starring Prosenjit Chatterjee, will be about a Kishore konthi, those concert performers famous for singing exactly like the legends they are linked to.

The singer in my film has dreams of greatness, but since he sounds like Kishore, he never gets recognition. His performances don't even have an identity of their own. Even his name is not important, as he's known to everyone as Kishore Kumar Jr,“ says Kaushik about his film, which will be a tribute to all those who've modelled their careers on famous singers.

The film will also capture the pain that haunts the character as he seeks recognition in his creative pursuits. “This will be a story that everyone can relate to. Kishore Kumar is present in all our lives. I can tell you that even after so many years, when I go to concerts, the song that is most requested by the audience is still Chirodini tumi je amar from Amar Sangi. Kishore Kumar had sung this back in 1986 and people still want to hear it,“ says Prosenjit. Apart from him, the film will also star Rajesh Sharma and Aparajita Auddy , who plays the lead character's wife. Shooting begins in March, with a plan for a Puja 2018 release. Shooting will be held in both Kolkata and Rajasthan.
