Film on late nineties’ Kolkata underworld in the making

The dark alleys Kolkata’s crime world will return on celluloid in a grand way. Director Jayabrata Das is all set for his new film ‘Calcutta’99’ which will revolve around Kolkata’s underworld of the late nineties. The makers recently announced the film by unveiling the teaser poster and going by the innovative poster, it seems the film falls under the neo noir genre.

As we see in the poster, two police officers are wading through the waterlogged city after a heavy downpour disrupts everything. The tagline reads, ‘When the fate of the city changed forever.’
In order to keep the suspense intact, the cast of the film hasn’t yet been announced and director Jayabrata assures that many well-known actors will share the screen in this gripping crime thriller. For the unversed, director Jayabrata Das and DOP Arnab Laha are final-year students of SRFTI (Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute).

Interestingly, seasoned actor Saswata Chatterjee is co-producing the film, and Soumojit Adak is the creative producer. Rishi Panda will score the music. The film will hit the shooting floors soon and is expected to release in 2023.
