Three years ago Saibal Mitra delivered a masterpiece with his critically acclaimed ‘Chitrokar’ inspired by the lives of Indian painter Binod Bihari Mukherjee and American painter Mark Rothko. Surprisingly Bengali cinema hasn’t explored the life of painters, especially stories revolving around the tension between artistic endeavour and commercial reality.
Now, young filmmaker
Satyajit Das is set for his directorial debut with ‘
Paintings In The Dark
’, a film revolving around a young blind painter. The slice-of-a-life drama will hit the big screens across West Bengal on November 29.
“The entire film depicts darkness and also finds out a way to eliminate it. The story follows a young painter Emmanuel who has exceptional quality. Despite being born-blind, he uses the canvas to express his inner feelings drawing inspiration from what he hears. It’s like a ray of light comes out from darkness. However, following a shocking turn of events his life changes forever. What happens next forms the crux of the film,” said the young director while giving a peek into the storyline.
The cast of ‘Paintings In The Dark’ includes a bunch of talented stage actors such as
Rashed Rahaman,
Sayanti Chattoraj
, Surojit Chowdhury and others.
