A two-day film festival will be organised in Kolkata on June 9 and 10 to honour Bengali filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta.

Besides the screening of films, poetry sessions, a memorial lecture and talks on the filmmaker will also be organised, his wife Sohini Dasgupta told PTI on Wednesday.

The Buddhadeb Dasgupta Film and Poetry Festival, which is being organised by the Buddhadeb Dasgupta Memorial Trust in partnership with the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), will begin with the screening of his award-winning 1989 movie 'Bagh Bahadur'.

A 90-minute-long documentary 'Meeting a Milestone' by renowned director Goutam Ghose and a recital of poems of Buddhadeb Dasgupta by singer Srikanta Acharya will also be held, Sohini Dasgupta said.

Eminent theatre personality Anamika Haksar's debut Hindi film 'Ghode ko jalebi khilane le ja riya hoon', chronicling stories of blue-collar workers in Delhi, and Dasgupta's 30-minute documentary 'The Melody Continues', on the life and works of musician Naushad Ali, will also be screened.

A session on 'Women poets of our time' will be attended by Ukrainian poet Iryna Vikyrchak and Indian poet Sharmila Ray.

The screening of Malayalam film 'Kummatty' (1979) by acclaimed director G Aravindan, one of the pioneers of the parallel cinema movement in the country, will draw the curtains of the film festival.

The 77-year-old filmmaker died on June 10, 2021.

He was the recipient of multiple national awards in different categories for movies such as 'Kalpurush', 'Swapner Din', 'Mondo Meyer Upakhyan', 'Uttara' and 'Lal Darja'. He has also garnered laurels at international film festivals.
