We now live in a society that commends shamelessness and condemns integrity. People justify their acts of thievery by deluding themselves into thinking that they are entitled to something because someone else failed to take proper care of it. This moral decay of society was the main theme of

Badal Sarkar

And now, a hard-hitting social drama is being made based on the play written by Badal Sarkar. Titled ‘

Sahorer Upokotha

’, the film is being directed by young filmmaker Bappa. The slice of a life drama has an ensemble cast including Joy Sengupta, Bidipta Chakraborty, Subhasis Mukherjee, Soutrika Mukherjee, Rahul Banerjee, Anindya Banerjee, Basabdatta Chatterjee, Lama Haldar, Rajat Ganguly, Pradip Bhattacharya, Sandip Mandal, Aritra Dutta, Subhasis Banerjee, Debranjan Nag and Arpan Bose. The shoot of ‘Sahorer Upokotha’ has already been wrapped up.

Speaking about the concept of the film, the young director says: “Badal Sarkar wrote ‘Baki Itihash’ in 1965, yet it’s so relevant today. It’s a story about the moral decay of our society. Beyond our daily routine, so many things are happening. Sometimes we protest them on social media or just ignore these incidents. Is there anything that can stop these social evils? How can we ignore these selfish acts? How can we just sit and watch when our society slowly decays? That’s the subject of my film. I want to raise these questions.”

While the screenplay is by the director himself, script is by Ashraf Sisir. The DOP is Saurav Banerjee and editor Anirban Maity. Priyanko Das will be composing the music and Riimi Deb is set to render her voice for the songs.
