‘Eken Babu’ makers release official statement after creator Sujan Dasgupta’s sudden demise

Sujan Dasgupta the writer of popular Bengali detective character Ekendra Sen which has been adapted into a successful series franchise – ‘Eken Babu’ and film franchise – ‘The Eken’, passed away on the January 18. This is indeed extremely heartbreaking news for not just the makers but for fans of the franchise and audiences worldwide.

While fans are left in shock later in the day the makers of the ‘Eken Babu’ franchise released an official statement that read, “We are really grief-stricken by this news.Sujan Dasgupta was like family to us and had been with us from the very beginning of our journey. We are grateful to have been able to know him on a personal and professional level and this is honestly a huge loss to the community. He did not only give us an iconic character, but stories and people that became a part of our lives. Eken Babu is now a household name and it wouldn’t have been possible without him. He’s not only the creator of Ekendra Sen but also the creator of all the lovely experiences and memories that Eken Babu conjures in the hearts of his viewers. Sujan Dasgupta will never be referred to in the past tense by the hoichoi family, as he lives on in our hearts through Eken Babu and will continue to do so.”
For the unversed, Sujan Dasgupta was found dead at his flat in Survey Park in Kolkata. He was 80. On Wednesday morning when the househelp came and didn’t receive any response despite repeated knocking on the door she informed the neighbours. Soon the police came and found the writer lying on the floor. According to reports, Sujan was alone at the home since his wife went to Shantiniketan on Tuesday. Primary investigation has already started since the writer’s body was discovered in mysterious circumstances.
