New York’s Criterion Collection, a part of Janus Films, has recently successfully restored many Satyajit Ray classics which include the ‘Apu Trilogy’. Some of these Ray classics are already available on video but few others haven’t yet released in public.

'Pather Panchali', the first film of ‘Apu Trilogy’, marked Satyajit Ray’s debut as a director. It plots a young boy ‘Apu’ from a poor family and his daily life in a rural Indian village. ‘Aparajito’ (The Unvanquished), the second film, closely follows Apu’s family as he grows into a matured young man. The last film ‘Apur Sansar’ (

The World of Apu

) narrates how Apu reunites with his son after the demise of his wife.
