His first film is yet to release, but Dibyendu is clearly going great guns. The singer/composer and now actor has been roped in for D Sankaraiyyas out-and-out commercial venture, Khokababu, that stars Dev and Subhashree. Dibyendu, who is yet to sign on the dotted line, says, Im yet to see the contract. I was told by the production house that the role, which I might play, was not part of the initial script.
But when demand for such a character came up, they thought of me. Word, the actor feels, has spread in the industry because of his first venture, Nondinee, where he plays a flamboyant photographer in love with a married woman (Swastika Mukherjee). With Nondinees posters getting good feedback, my look too has been discussed extensively. Ive played a major role in the film and that must have gone in my favour, he says thoughtfully.
The actor, whos all geared up for his first commercial potboiler, however, isnt too familiar with this genre of films. For one, he is yet to watch the Dev-starrer Challenge, for which he had sung a number. Its true that I havent watched commercial Bengali films. But a role is a role, well beyond the purview of commercial or mainstream cinema, and Im bound to give my 100 per cent. Any kind of film is welcome, he reasons.
Dibyendu, whos not familiar with the lead actors, is hopeful of getting full support from the unit. I was a novice when I started out with Nondinee. The unit had lent me full support because primarily, Im a singer and music continues to be my first love. This time too, I am expecting a lot of support from people around me, he adds. Dibyendu, whos all set to play the second lead in Khokababu, is expected to begin shooting on June 24. Hitting the right note and how!
