Dev’s ‘Chander Pahar’ set for a re-release after 11 years of its premiere in the theatres

Dev is gearing up for a packed Durga Puja this year. The Tollywood superstar, who has been donning both the caps of actor and producer of late, is bracing himself for back-to-back releases this Puja. Dev is a part of Srijit Mukherji’s upcoming film ‘Tekka’ which is slated to release this Puja. However, that is not all. ‘Chander Pahar’, which stars Dev as the protagonist, is set for a re-release in the theatres after 11 years of its original release.

‘Chander Pahar’, directed by Kamaleshwar Mukherjee, released in 2013. The film was an adaptation of the famous literary work of Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay, ‘Chander Pahar’. ‘Chander Pahar’ chronicles the life and adventures of Shankar, the protagonist of the story. Shankar Roy Chowdhury, a 20-year-old man, completed his graduation and was about to take up a job in a jute mill, a prospect he did not like at all. By a stroke of luck, he got a job as a station master in a desolate station in Uganda Railway and went to Africa without a second thought. After crossing paths with a middle-aged Portuguese explorer Diego Alvarez, Shankar set out on back-to-back adventures. Being influenced by Alvarez, Shankar gave up his job and accompanied him in pursuit of the largest diamond mine in the mountains of Richtersveld. ‘Chander Pahar’ sums up the ventures and experiences of Shankar, a Bengali adventure-seeker.

Dev, who played the character of Shankar in the ‘Chander Pahar’, received appreciation for his work and the film went on to become a hit at the box office. After 11 years of its original release, the Kamaleshwar Mukherjee directorial is set for a re-release on September 20.


On the other hand, Dev has another big release this Puja. Srijit Mukherji’s ‘Tekka’, starring Rukmini Maitra and Swastika Mukherjee alongside Dev is slated to release this Durga Puja. After Durga Puja, Dev will be bringing his action-hero avatar with ‘Khadan’ this Christmas. The film stars Jisshu U Sengupta and Idhika Paul as well.
