The shoot of director

Nirmal

Charkraborty’s

Datta

, based on

Sarat

Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novel, I will resume from April this year after a gap of almost two years. The shoot had started with Rituparna Sengupta, Joy Sengupta, Devlina Kumar and Biswajit Chakraborty in 2018 and was disrupted for a number of reasons including the pandemic.

“Now that the situation is better, we are planning to shoot for the film again. But before that, we have lots to do. The costumes will have to be matched with the previous shoot. The locations and art direction will also have to be matched. That’s a mammoth task,” said Nirmal. Meanwhile, he has already started talking to the actors and they have assured him that getting a date would not be a problem.

“Half of the shoot was done in Bolepur and Kolkata and now, we are ready to start the other half. Hopefully, this time, we would be able to finish it. The music of the film is also done,” Nirmal added.

Datta is a romantic story, influenced by the Victorian notion of 'romantic love'. It dwells on the growing attachment, despite all odds, between an affluent Brahmo woman and an indigent but brilliant Hindu young man. This is Nirmal’s debut film and actress Rituparna Sengupta plays a pivotal role in the film.
