Darshana Banik to play Suchitra Sen in Bhanu Bandopadhyay’s biopic; Raima Sen wishes her luck

Darshana Banik is set to add another feather to her hat. The actress will be seen embodying Mahanayika Suchitra Sen in the upcoming biopic of Bhanu Bandopadhyay. The Bhanu Bandopadhyay biopic ‘Jomaloye Jibonto Bhanu’, helmed by Krishnendu Chatterjee, is currently in the making. Darshana will have limited screen time in the movie. However, the actress will be seen as none other than legendary actress Suchitra Sen. The first look of Darshana as Suchitra Sen is out and has gone viral on social media.

Adorned in a chiffon saree, with a ribbon bow in her hair and sleek neckpiece – Darshana looks stunning in the avatar of yesteryear’s heroine. Although Darshana’s features are far from Suchitra Sen’s, makeup artist Somnath Kundu has weaved his magic with the brushes and the end results are quite impressive. Raima Sen, actress and granddaughter of Suchitra Sen who bears an uncanny resemblance to her grandmother’s looks, has wished Darshana the best.

However, the netizens have not been kind to Darshana over her look as Suchitra Sen. Many of them commented how they would prefer Raima donning the part as she looked the spitting image of her grandmother. Many of them even deemed Darshana to be an ‘overrated’ actress. However, Darshana refused to be bogged down by those comments and gave some of them befitting replies. However, her peers from the industry have wished her the best for the project. Darshana’s husband and actor Saurav Das too encouraged the actress for her courage and endeavour.

The Bhanu Bandopadhyay biopic, ‘Jomaloye Jibonto Bhanu’, has been in the works for quite some time. Saswata Chatterjee will be seen embodying the legendary actor in this biopic. Saswata’s first look as Bhanu Bandopadhyay has been released already. Last year, the first poster of ‘Jomaloye Jibonto Bhanu’ was released on Bhanu Badopadhyay’s birthday. Saswata has previously played several Bengali actors and directors. He played Ritwik Ghatak in ‘Meghe Dhaka Tara’ and Uttam Kumar in ‘Achena Uttam’. ‘Jomaloye Jibonto Bhanu’ is presented by Burima Chitram, directed by Dr. Krishnendu Chatterjee and produced by Suman Kumar Das.

On the other hand, Darshana was last seen in ‘Surjo’, directed by Shieladitya Moulik. The actress shared the screen with Vikram Chatterjee and Madhumita Sarcar in the film.
