‘Danga The Riot’ featuring popular actor ‘

’ was scheduled to release last week but to the makers’ shock cinema halls in
Bengal
apparently cancelled all their shows owing to its controversial title.
Speaking about the situation, director
Milan Bhowmik reportedly said that he was assured that 103 theatres across Bengal will release the film. He even alleged the theatre owners may have been threatened. So, to save their theatres from being torched, every theatre and multiplex in Bengal refused to screen ‘Danga The Riot’. On the contrary, the film was released simultaneously across Bihar, Jharkhand, Agartala and Assam.
The periodical film deals with
Syama Prasad Mookherjee
's contribution during the time of Bengal’s unrest. It explores the works of Mookherjee on the backdrop of the infamous Calcutta killings in 1946. Many historians believe, if he didn’t intervene, West Bengal would have become a part of Pakistan.
Reports are rife that the director has written a letter to West Bengal Chief Minister
Mamata Banerjee to look into this matter.
