Costumes for Datta taking a long time to make

The costumes of Datta, debutant director Nirmal Chakraborty’s upcoming film, is taking almost one month to make. According to Nirmal, the period drama, based on the novel by

of same name, requires outfits that will fit the era shown in the film and he will not compromise with quality.

The film shows incidents of 30 to 32 days and that means that the lead character, Rituparna Sengupta, will have to wear at least 25 outfits. “Besides, there are other actors in the film whose costumes are also being made,” said Nirmal. All the costumes are being made in Rabindrik style.

Designer Sabarni Das is making the costumes and said that almost 150 outfits are being made for the film. She said that the design work is not challenging because she has already worked on a number of period dramas and she knows the style. “There is photographic evidence and documentation that shows what kind of outfits were used during that time. So, the work is not that challenging,” she said, adding that the number of costumes is huge and is taking some time to make.
