City filmmaker wins best director in a Delhi film festival

City-based filmmaker

Sudeep Ranjan Sarkar

bagged the Best Director (Jury) Award at the 12th

Dadasaheb Phalke Film Festival Awards

that took place recently in Delhi. Sudeep bagged the award for his film Notes To A Lover From

Jenny Adam

And Her Beautiful Family. Besides,

Mrunalini Thakur

has also bagged the

Best Supporting Actress

award for the film.

The 126-minute-long psychological horror film is shot on a smartphone. “It is a black and white film in 4:3 aspect ratio. It was shot in 12 days with two phones and a gimbal. I did not use any external lens,” said the director.

Talking about the award, he said, “It feels great to win an award. This is not the first time I won the best director in this festival, yet every recognition is special and exciting. It is an outright independent film. I also believe a recognition as this one will also encourage other filmmakers to explore their creativity. I did not rent a big camera, etc. This recognition also proves that if you know how you can actually shoot a full-length feature in your smartphone. Several international filmmakers are actually working with smartphones all over the world.”

The film was earlier awarded in a film festival in Hyderabad this year.
