government regarding the policies of importing foreign movies and supporting more local films, the cinema halls in the country will be shut down from April 12.

, announced that the closing of theatres from April 12 has been postponed for the time being. It’s believed the decision was taken on Bangladesh Information Minister,

Muhammad Hasan Mahmud

's request.

Many film organizations in the neighbouring country have been protesting for the past few years against the Indian film imports, and more specifically the South Asian Free Trade Area Treaty, which allows the import and distribution of South Asian films in Bangladesh. These organizations claim the foreign films are also hurting the local film market.
