Sayantika Banerjee reached Dhaka on August 30 to collaborate with celebrated Bangladeshi actor
Zayed Khan for the upcoming movie 'Chayabaz'. Originally, the shooting was slated to continue until September 12. Unexpectedly, Sayantika abruptly left the shooting set on September 7 and returned to Kolkata without concluding her part in the film.
Multiple reports have surfaced regarding her sudden departure, each offering a different angle.
In a statement issued recently, Sayantika laid the blame squarely on the producer,
Monirul Islam, and dance director Michael Babu. She alleged that the producer failed to effectively manage the shoot, claiming it started "without any plan" and that Monirul couldn't resolve ongoing technical issues.
On the other side of the dispute, Monirul Islam vehemently denies Sayantika's claims. According to him, she left Dhaka simply because she did not want to work with Michael Babu. Monirul contends that allegations against Michael—particularly that he held Sayantika's hands against her will—are unfounded. In a press conference, he called Sayantika's allegations "completely false and ridiculous," accusing her of wanting to "beat up Michael."
Monirul further challenges Sayantika's professionalism, stating that she was the one who exhibited "unprofessional behavior." As per his account, they advanced her 50,000 rupees for wardrobe expenses, yet she failed to bring any clothes to the set. Monirul then claims to have re-supplied her wardrobe through a dressman, clothes which Sayantika has yet to return.
He also raised questions about the alleged inefficiency on the set, citing an instance where both the hero and heroine took four hours just to change their clothes, an interval he finds inexplicable. He insinuated that the lead actors stayed at the hotel even after the unit had packed up for the day, prompting questions about what they were doing there.
Monirul also touched on the change of dance directors. He clarified that the film was supposed to involve three dance directors for four songs. The first song was choreographed by Saif Khan Kalu, who has been duly compensated. The choice of dance director for the remaining tracks, Monirul insists, falls under the director's purview.
The abrupt departure of Sayantika Banerjee from the movie 'Chayabaz' has now led to a public blame game, involving not just her but also the producer and other members of the crew. As each side presents its version of events, it remains unclear who is actually at fault.
