Each one of us is trying to beat the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in our own way. Many have come forward in this hour of crisis to help those in need. For instance, singer Lopamudra Mitra is singing and reading out poems online to

patients recuperating isolation and she believes this may uplift their spirit. Like her, theatre group Purba Paschim too had put up a post on social media that said, “If you are feeling lonely or sad in isolation call us and we will chat with you, sing a song, recite a poem, tell you a story and be with you mentally.”

“We got a lot of calls after we had posted this on social media. This idea is by Soumitra Mitra, the main person behind our theatre group. Mental health is a huge issue now and so is the feeling of loneliness. Talking to someone in this hour of crisis might help in a way. People who are Covid-affected and are in isolation away from their loved ones are going through a tough time. This is our way to be by their side so that they don’t slip into depression. When we get calls for help, we take down their name and number and then passing them on to Debshankar Halder, Sujan Mukherjee and Abhijit Acharya. And later, they connect with these people,” said

Koyel Das

, a member of the theatre group.

Sujan, on his part, is happy to be part of this noble cause. “When Soumitrada told me about this endeavor I was more than happy to be part of it. If someone feels happy by talking to me or if I can make someone feel good by singing a song or reciting a poem, there’s nothing like it, especially in these difficult times. So many people are working on the ground to help Covid-hit families. Compared to that, this is nothing,” said Sujan.
