Weight limit for school bags and no homework for Classes I and II may sound like a dream for hassled parents and their wards, but it’s likely to be a reality soon. Even though the state government is looking into the pros and cons of the HRD ministry’s directive, it has already been welcomed by one and all. A few schools have introduced lockers so that students don’t have to carry books every day and some are going the extra mile to stress on practical projects so that the students enjoy academics.
Our child actors, who are known to balance acting assignments with studies, are a happy lot. Over to them...
SRIJATO BANERJEEOnly today I was given homework in school. Who said there will be no homework for students of Class II? I am in Class II, but will have to submit my homework today! I will be so happy if there is no homework as I will be able to play football for long hours after school. My school bag is not that heavy as I carry books as per routine. But now there is a weight limit for school bags; it’s good for us, else the bag becomes so heavy at times.
ARSHIYA MUKHERJEEI have shifted to Mumbai and study in Class III now. So, this means I will have to do homework! I wish the directive was applicable till Class V. My school bag is usually heavy. But Ma said soon there might be a specific weight limit for school bags. Thank God for that!
ADOLINA CHAKRABARTYI study in Class I and don’t have much homework to do. Now, I hear, there will be no homework at all — I am so happy! I can play more now. But I do study; no homework doesn’t mean no studies. And yes, the bag used to be a bit heavy, but hopefully, it will not be so anymore. Does this mean we’ll be keeping all the text books in school from now on?
JASHOJEET BANERJEEI heard about the new directive and want to go back to Class II from Class VI, as that will mean no homework. I envy them as I have so much homework to do every day and there are also class tests every other day. I love to play badminton, but I play games only in school as I don’t get any free time at home. I have eight periods in a day and the bag is so heavy that it leaves an impact on my shoulders. Weight limit for school bags if implemented will be great news.
SAMIUL ALAMI still remember how bogged down we used to be with homework when we were in junior school. There used to be no time to play as homework and class tests would take up most of my time. But this new directive can be a great step for students if enforced. I study in Class IX, so I know what books to carry to school according to routine, but for children, weight specification and no homework till Class II is welcome news.
