Rima Das is on cloud nine and why not? Her latest directorial ‘

Bulbul Can Sing

’ continues its festival round. After winning the Best Film for the third year in a row at the Prag Cine Awards 2019, ‘Bulbul Can Sing’ has now been selected as the opening night film at the Indian Film Festival of

Melbourne

.

The critically acclaimed film will officially open the festival with a screening on August 9 and this will also be the official Australian premiere. Rima has time and again proven her mettle as a talented director traveling with her cinema globally, receiving many honours and accolades.

“Bulbul Can Sing speaks for teenagers, issues they confront in school and society. I am really honoured to see our work being recognized and also thankful to the cast and crew, family, friends and everyone for their support and encouragement,” the filmmaker stated.

While speaking about the appreciations her work is receiving, the filmmaker explained: "Both

Village Rockstars

and Bulbul Can Sing portray strong women characters at its heart. It's feels nice to see the critics and audience alike have welcomed such stories. It also shows us that it doesn't matter whether the film is directed by a male or female filmmaker. I would be happy to see more and more women in the industry make shine and also open windows for fellow women."

Earlier ‘Bulbul Can Sing’, earned Rima Das the Best Director award at the Dublin International Film Festival earlier, before being honoured with the Someone To Watch award at the Cleveland International Film Festival.

The much talked about film follows the story of a teenage schoolgirl Bulbul from rural Assam. While she is about to discover her teen life, a tragedy with her best friend leaves the girl in shock. However, a spirited Bulbul shows great courage as she discovers who she really is.
