Prosenjit’s lineup of films establish his individuality

Being an actor is not a cakewalk, especially in a cut-throat entertainment industry. That’s why it is impressive to see an actor whom we’ve closely watched for years as one person completely reinventing himself in another role. Prosenjit Chatterjee is doing the same with each of his films. Be it ‘Moner Manush’, ‘Jatishwar’, ‘Mayurakshi’, ‘Praktan’ or ‘Robibaar’ – he’s constantly breaking his image reinventing the actor within. The films that as an actor Prosenjit has chosen over the past 10 years reflect not only his social beliefs but also establishes his individuality. Interestingly, his next lineup of films, too, echoes the same pattern. Take a look…

‘Shesh Pata’

This Atanu Ghosh film is an intriguing yet poignant tale of values and moral vision, the journey towards one’s conscience and also a search for hope amidst turmoil. Prosenjit here plays Balmiki, a reckless, impulsive and bohemian man in his elderly phase of life. As Atanu Ghosh has shared that he believes they were able to bring in quite a drastic change in the actor’s look, it is rightly so. His first look as Balmiki has created quite a lot of buzz.

‘Kakababur Protyaborton’

This Srijit Mukherji directorial sees the return of Kakababu aka Raja Roy Chowdhury to the big screen after the previous film in the franchise ‘Yeti Obhijaan’. Based on the story ‘Jongoler Modhye Ekti Hotel’ by Sunil Gangopadhyay, the adventure flick will release during Durga Puja. It sees Kakababu and Santu visiting the great Masai Mara Game Reserve where they come across a hotel owner who informs them about missing tourists and the troublesome Masai tribe. Kakababu and Santu get involved into yet another dangerous game of life and death.

4/6

‘Saajhghar’

Yet another interesting film with a relatively new filmmaker! Anjan Kanjilal’s upcoming period drama ‘Saajhghar’ will present Prosenjit in yet another surprising role. The Tollywood superstar is always happy to work with new filmmakers, just like he did with Chandrasish Roy for ‘Nirantar’. Anjan who’s a well-known theatre personality has previously directed a slice-of-a-life drama ‘Sahobashe’. ‘Saajhghar’ will explore the timeframe when the British used to rule India and as the title suggests the story will have some key characters from the theatre and film world of that time. Prosenjit has been cast in one of those significant characters. Shooting for the film will start early next year.

5/6

‘Kaberi Antardhan’

The story of Kaushik Ganguly’s ‘Kaberi Antardhan’ revolves around the time when the Emergency was declared in the country. It will be a period piece where an ensemble cast will be portraying various shades of emotions. It’s a romantic thriller set against the backdrop of the infamous Emergency era in '70s Bengal. Although Prosenjit’s character in the film is in tight wrap, Kaushik has promised the celebrated actor will be seen in yet another fascinating character just like we saw in ‘Drishtikone’ and ‘Jyeshthoputro’.

Other projects

Besides these four Bengali films, he also has a web series in hand which is being directed by Vikramaditya Motwane. Prosenjit will share the screen with Aditi Rao Hydari and Aparshakti Khurrana in the series. The story will highlight the rivalry and competition in work culture in the film industry from the 1940s. The fictional show is loosely based on real events in Bollywood from the time. The Tolly superstar is also in talks with Shieladitya Moulik for a relationship drama which might once again see Rituparna Sengupta opposite him. Then again, he has two films with Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy – one among them is the much anticipated ‘Haami 2’.
