Breaking away from the comic mould, Aniket Chattopadhyay is ready to venture into serious territory with his next, Tuski. The film about two young girls Tuski and Tua coming from diagonally opposite backgrounds will mark the Tolly debut of Poulomi Basu, theatre actress and wife of state minister Bratya Basu.
Giving an insight into the storyline, Aniket said, Tuski is a young girl living in a slum. While her father is an auto driver, her mother was a maid, who passed away while giving birth to her. Tuskis aunt, who too ekes out a living by working as a domestic help, comes to stay with them. Next to the slum is a highrise, where Tua lives with her family. Her father is a corporate honcho and this film is a picture in contrast. Its as much about the two girls as about the divide between the rich and the poor.
Aniket has roped in Rajesh Sharma to play the role of Tuskis father; Kanchana Moitra will essay the aunts character. Pradip Mukhopadhyay, Goutam Sarkar and Poulomi will play Tuas grandfather, father and mother respectively. Debranjan Nag and Kharaj Mukherjee will get under the skin of two slum dwellers a jute mill worker and a saxophonist. A major part of the movie will be shot in a south Kolkata slum. Real slum dwellers will play the other roles. I have already spoken to them, said Aniket.
To select the two young girls, auditions were being held for over 25 days. I announced it on a social networking site and got good feedback. The two girls, Priyanka (Tuski) and Moumi (Tua) are very promising. Anamika Saha will be seen in my film after long, added the director.
On being prodded about the serious storyline, he said, I always wanted to do other kinds of films. My Room No. 103 is stuck in the cans, it is not a comedy. My political commitment also doesnt allow me to make fun films all the time. Theres a lot of disparity around, which prompted me to come up with this film. Poulomi, who is looking forward to her Tolly debut, said it was the character that intrigued her. There are many shades to my character, Sraboni, who is mother to a seven-year-old. She is obsessed with her daughter. On the one hand, she is loving and caring, on the other hand, she is envious and proud. It will take me a lot of efforts to portray the grey shades. While the role is interesting, working with Aniketda was always on the cards. He has worked with Bratya and is a family friend. I am grateful to him for this break, she said.
Tuski will go on the floors on October 6.
