did superb business in single screens. This proves there is audience for such films. But there is a dearth of such films today. Second, the condition of the halls outside Kolkata is pathetic. Big commercial firms or production houses should join hands with these halls to help them survive. Only this can ensure a long life for Bengali cinema. We’ve seen single screens like Metro and Lighthouse being demolished. The corporation should make it mandatory for those with commercial interests to first open at least two halls with a capacity of 250 each and only then go ahead with whatever they want to do."
