On Tuesday evening, the newly formed
Bongio Chalochitra Parishad
started its new wing — All India Events Association.
Members
of the Parishad formally launched the association with a lamp-lighting ceremony and promised to give shape to their agenda of hosting
cultural
activities across the state in the coming two years. Director Milan Bhowmik said this is the time to unite against
monopoly
in the cultural world. “Bongio Chalochitra Parishad is two months old, but already artistes from different parts of Bengal have got in touch with us. It’s not possible that only one party will remain active in the cultural world and those who know their work well, will suffer as they are not affiliated to the party. We are working towards betterment of the cultural world and want to ensure that payments are made on time,” said Milan, adding that they wish to open a branch in north Bengal as well. Subir Ranjan Das, an advocate and a member of the Parishad, said their goal is to reach out to the masses. “From my 22 years of experience as an advocate, I realised that it is time to pay back to the society,” he said, adding that their fight will also be against the ‘undeserving’ people who have not done much for the artistes. Bappaditya Chakraborty, another member, said even though their association started off with five people, he dreams of a day when there will be 5 lakh members. “We want to work in the districts as well and reach out to the grassroot with our work,” he said. The press con was attended by Biswapriyo Roychowdhury, Pratap Banerjee, Molly Pal, Raj Bhowmik, Soma Gupta, Debojyoti Chakraborty,
Bani Kumar
, Nabol Kumar Goswami Maharaj and others.
