Interesting facts about Nusrat Jahan

She has been juggling between two roles quite efficiently - that of a budding politician and a celebrated actress. Still, Nusrat Jahan wants to do 2 films a year. As an actor, she is looking to step out of her comfort zone and explore different genres. The pretty actress has been in the news ever since she won the Lok Sabha elections as a TMC candidate last year. Be it the parliament dress code, skipping the oath ceremony for marriage or wearing saree and sindoor – all these have irked many as Nusrat continues to face the wrath of social media.

So, how well do you know Nusrat Jahan? As the actress celebrates her birthday today, check out these interesting facts about the Bengali diva.

First film after joining politics

Nusrat became an MP in 2019. And now, at the beginning of 2020, she is back to her forte, returning to the big screen with her film ‘Asur’, directed by Pavel, after joining politics. The film which released on January 03 sees Jeet playing Kigan, a crazy independent artist who creates the tallest Durga idol and it leads to an unprecedented crowd and almost out-of-control situation. But it’s only a small part of the story as the film also focuses on a story of friendship which goes haywire between once close friends Kigan and Bodhi (Abir Chatterjee). Nusrat Jahan plays Aditi, a non-practising art student.

Nusrat’s film debut

She started her modeling career after winning the beauty contest Fair-one Miss Kolkata in 2010. Nusrat Jahan's screen debut was in Raj Chakraborty's ‘Shotru’ opposite Jeet. Her second film was ‘Khoka 420’ sharing the screen with Dev and Subhashree Ganguly.

Dragged into a controversial case

Nusrat was dragged into the controversy due to her ties with Kader Khan, the prime accused in the 2012 Park Street gang-rape case. However, the Bengali actor’s name never featured in the charge sheet. The police didn’t even question her regarding the matter even though Nusrat reportedly knew Kader closely. Speculation was rife that the two were engaged and were planning to get married sometime in 2012.

Sweeping victory in 2019 Lok Sabha elections

Nusrat faced the same criticism as her friend Mimi Chakraborty when she was announced as a TMC candidate. Back then the pretty actress insisted she is unfazed by the trolling and focused on working towards the welfare of the people. "During the film promotions, it is our job to reach out to the people. As a political leader, I will have to ensure their welfare as well," she said. And now all her hard work has paid off as Nusrat defeated her nearest rival BJP's Sayantan Ghosh by 350369 votes. It was a successful political debut for the actress who is well known for his razor-sharp tongue.

Couldn’t take oath as MP on June 17 and 18

Because of her marriage scheduled around this time in Turkey, Newly elected MP Nusrat was unable to attend the oath-taking ceremony in the parliament. Her friend Mimi also missed the event as she was in Turkey too attending Nusrat’s wedding. Both the newly turned politicians took the oath on June 25 once Nusrat returned India after tying the knot with Nikhil Jain.

Ties the knot with Nikhil Jain

It was a cosy family affair with friends and families of Nusrat Jahan and Nikhil Jain attending the wedding in the picturesque town of Bodrum in Turkey. However, a large number of Bengali film personalities and political leaders are expected to attend the reception in Kolkata. The marriage ceremony took place on June 19 last year at Six Senses Kaplankaya, a beachfront resort near the town of Bodrum. However, the actress turned newly elected MP was set to marry in December, but had to prepone the date on the family’s insistence. The date and the venue were finally decided ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

How Nikhil and Nusrat started their journey

Nikhil Jain is a Kolkata-based businessman. Nusrat only formally met Nikhil during Durga Puja last year, but they fall for each other instantly. Soon they were in a relationship and 6-7 months down the line cleared their mind to tie the knot. A student of MP Birla Foundation Higher Secondary School, Nikhil has studied management at the University of Warwick before working as a consultant in an UK-based multi-national company. He is currently based in Kolkata and was first introduced to Nusrat during a professional assignment. She was also signed on as the brand ambassador of the sari label that is owned by Nikhil.

Faced backlash for wearing saree and sindoor in parliament

Nusrat Jahan Jain faced some brutal trolls, shockingly for her choice of clothes. This is not the first time, the TMC MP was criticized by netizens earlier when she visited the Parliament in western formals. And now, Jahan faces vicious trolls for wearing a saree even though she is a Muslim. Looks like keyboard warriors are left with no other excuse but to start the latest social media onslaught. Recently married to Kolkata-based businessman Nikhil Jain, the pretty actress grabbed the attention of social media users when she took her oath first time in the Lok Sabha dressed like any other newly-wed woman. She appeared in a saree, sindoor and choora (bangles) for the oath-taking ceremony. Trolls seem to have taken a step further now as they also took a dig at Jahan for her choice of a life-partner along with her outfit.
