Five women grapple with different challenges in Birsa Dasgupta’s 'Crisscross'. It explores womanhood against an urban backdrop. Produced by SVF, the social drama is an adaptation of writer Smaranjit Chakraborty’s popular novel of the same name. The film is slated to release this Friday, August 10.

During a recent media interaction, directed Birsa Dasgupta revealed what triggered the idea of making a film like ‘Crisscross’. “Since my childhood, I have witnessed my mother taking up all the responsibilities of our house while keeping herself busy in the work field also. The same thing happens today. Now, my wife balances the household and her work superbly. My two daughters are also growing up. All these things in my personal life inspired me to make something that can actually celebrate womanhood. I believe everyone will relate to the ‘Crisscross’ story.”

As per the narrative, Mimi Chakraborty (Ira) plays a workaholic photojournalist who has to choose between her career and personal life. Priyanka Sarkar essays the character Suzy, a single mother facing all odds while raising her only child. While Sohini Sarkar’s character Rupa is a victim of domestic violence and torn apart in a failed marriage, Jaya Ahsan plays Miss Sen, an arrogant and rebellious woman running her own ad agency. Nusrat Jahan will be seen as an aspiring actress Meher struggling to find her foothold in the industry.
