Biplab Dasgupta feels that
Srijit Mukherji has upgraded himself as a creative person over the years. “Srijit is a well-read man, which is rare these days. He is a thinking man who always tries to enrich himself. I knew Srijit before he made Autograph. In fact, Anjan Dutta and I was part of a stage show titled Check Mate which was penned by Srijit. We
had
rehearsed for it too, but for some reason the show didn’t happen. . Gumnaami is my third film with Srijit after Baishe Srabon and Zulfiqar,” said the actor. He added, “I play Mr Pal, a lawyer of the Mukherjee Commission hearings and I must say the people will talk about the way Srijit has dealt with the subject.”
Talking about his working experience with the director, Biplab said, “I share a wonderful rapport with him. And what I like about him is his interpersonal relationships on the sets. Srijit is well aware of his strengths, which makes him more confident as the captain of the ship.”
Gumnaami is a film based on the Mukherjee Commission hearings which happened between 1999 and 2005, where the three theories about Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's death were discussed and debated. It is a dramatisation of the hearings, where an investigative journalist supporting the Gumnaami Baba theory locks horns with the official lawyer who supports the plane crash theory. In their clash, the Death in Russia theory also comes up.
