Mainak Bhaumik steps into the eerie and emotional world of psychological horror with his upcoming OTT series
Bidaay. Starring Anusha Viswanathan and Sawon Chakraborty, the series unfolds a haunting narrative where love, memory, and the supernatural collide.
Set against the backdrop of Kolkata, the story follows a wedding photographer who reunites with her former partner and agrees to spend a night at his ancestral home. What begins as a quiet, nostalgic visit soon takes a disturbing turn, as she finds herself trapped in a space where reality blurs and escape seems uncertain.
Anusha added, "Prepping for and shooting
Bidaay was a magical experience—not just because of the genre, but because of the incredible teamwork. Sawon is a wonderful co-actor, and the entire team brought something special to the project. Under Mainak's direction, this journey has left us with unforgettable memories. I can’t wait for audiences to experience it.”
Sawon reflecting on the series, shared, “The most remarkable thing about
Bidaay is that you simply can’t fit it into one box. Some might call it a love story, others may see it as a commentary on gender-based oppression, and some will insist it’s a ghost story.
My character is very much flesh and blood, but its crisis isn’t entirely what you’d expect. Working with Mainak da and acting alongside Anusha again has been an absolute delight. I hope Sobsomoy opens doors for many more such creative works.”
Blending emotional depth with chilling suspense,
Bidaay explores themes of trauma, relationships, and unseen forces, offering a gripping experience that goes beyond conventional genre boundaries. With its atmospheric storytelling and layered performances, the series marks an intriguing addition to the evolving slate of original content on Sobsomoy.
