'Bengali films and no Bangaliana?'

Change is the only constant. And it is this change thatadds the much-needed spice in films too. A generous dollop of Bangaliana in afew of the recent Tollywood churn-outs seems to have spiced up the movie viewingexperience for the average filmgoer. A case in point is Prabhat Roy���������s���������Bhorer Allo��������� produced by Vaishali Dalmiya.SaysProsenjit Chatterjee, ���������Bangaliana is back with a bang in Bengali films.That is why projects like ���������Autograph���������, ���������Moner Manush���������,���������Bombaier Bombete��������� are doing so well. In fact, Bangaliana was alwaysthere. But it lost its way amidst the countless remakes. The best part of it isthat GenY is appreciating the Bengali culture depicted infilms.���������Sanghamitra Chaudhuri too voices a similar opinion. Thefilm-maker says, ���������The audience has had enough of the Hindi and Southremakes. An overdose of anything is bound to take a toll. With films stressingon stories and family values, the middle-class audience that had almost stoppedvisiting theatres, is once again making a beeline formovies.���������What���������s more, the 150th birth anniversary of the Bard has been a culminating point in bringing this Bangali boom in films, feels actor Chiranjit Chakraborty. ���������Celebrating the Bengali culture and ethos was never out. It took a backseat for a few days. But now, thanks to Tagore, it is back in full swing, be it in terms of content or music,��������� the actor points out.But for Bengali films to survive among the classes andthe masses alike, there has to be a healthy balance between the masala and themelodrama, confesses Locket Chatterjee. ���������Of course, there needs to bedifferent flavours in films to cater to the different audience.
