It’s not often you get the chance to represent your country on international platforms and when you get the chance it’s indeed a moment of pride and honour. That’s why independent filmmaker Amartya Bhattacharyya has every reason to celebrate.

His latest film ‘Adieu

GODARD

’, after its world premiere at the Moscow International Film Festival earlier in April, will now be screened at the 25th Split Film Festival 2021, the oldest international film festival of Croatia. This will be the Croatian Premiere of the film. The festival is set to run from 15th to 21st September.

The experimental film is an Indo-French co-production and has Choudhury Bikash Das as the central character around whom the plot revolves. Shot exquisitely in Odisha, it’s a socio-cultural comic tribute to the legendary French filmmaker

Jean-Luc Godard

, and draws inspiration from his abruptness and quirky style of cinema. Dipanwit Dashmohapatra, Sudharsri Madhusmita, Swastik Choudhury, Choudhury Jayaprakash Das,

Shankar Basu Mallick

and Abhishek Giri play other important characters in the film.

‘Adieu GODARD’ is based on an old man named Ananda, who happens to be a pornography addict. He secretly watches pornography with some friends in a conservative Indian village. One day, they accidentally come across a Godard’s film mistakenly rented as pornography. Though his friends were disgusted, Ananda gets attracted to Godard’s film and gradually develops an obsession. He initiates the idea of hosting a film festival in their village where Godard’s films will be screened. The festival gets organized after a lot of drama, but what happens forms the crux of the story.

The film's music has been scored by

Kisaloy Roy

, and interestingly, Bengali rock icon Rupam

Islam

has lent his voice to an

Odia

song for the first time in this film.
