Bedabrata Pain is looking forward to working with a mixed bag of actors from both Tollywood & Bollywood Call it the butterfly effect. The Shahbag movement is in full swing in Bangladesh. And ripples of the protests demanding capital punishment for war criminals can be felt across the border. Fresh from winning the
National Award for Best Debut Director, NASA scientist-turned-filmmaker Bedabrata Pain is set to begin his next a film on the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971.
Says Bedabrata, My next film will be on the Bangladesh Liberation War. Therell be one story connecting all three countries India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. For this movie, Im thinking of repeating my
Chittagong cast. Apart from that, Im planning to cast
Paoli Dam,
Ushasie Chakraborty and
Rituparna Sengupta. There will be a few Bollywood actors too, but Im yet to zero in on them, he says.
First
Chittagong and now a film on the Liberation War. Does the director have a penchant for making patriotic films? Nothing like that. In this industry, a director proposes and the producer disposes. Im also working on another script a love triangle based in contemporary India. Personally, I want the film based on the Liberation War to roll first, but it all depends on the producer, he says.
Talking to us from LA, Bedabrata says his recent feat wasnt a cakewalk after all. Winning a National Award is a fantastic feeling.
Chittagong was made against all odds. The shoot was not trouble-free. So, for me,
Chittagong stands for victory, both in Bengal and in national and international circuits. Im honoured that the National Award jury liked my film and thought its worthy of getting this recognition. Interestingly, people who didnt believe me while I was making the film, have started taking me seriously after I won this award, he laughs.
Ushasie, a wee bit hesitant about divulging the details, puts it, I had a brief discussion with Bedabrata regarding my role in his film on the
Muktijuddho in Bangladesh. Apart from that, I cant reveal much. I was supposed to be part of
Chittagong as well. That didnt materialize because of date problems. So, till the time I sign this film, I will not speak about it. Meanwhile, Ushasie is looking forward to the release of Suman Mukhopadhyays
Kangal Malsat. I play a prostitute in the film. For the role, I had to change my body language.
Anek galagalio ditey hoeche. It is the most difficult character I have played so far. But it was a pleasure working with Suman
da, she adds.
Paoli too confirmed that she has been approached. I had a discussion with Bedabrata some time ago. Id defintely love to be part of his next film.
