It seems Arindam Chakrabortys debut film Ashare Goppo
is in trouble once again. The movie initially produced by a chit fund company and later resurrected by producer
Rana Sarkar was all set to hit the theatres, before Sachet Saraf filed a complaint to EIMPA that Arindam had stolen the concept of his film which he got registered in 2012. Now, we hear that the movie is apparently a frame-to-frame copy of Bollywood film,
Bheja Fry.
Sachet Saraf, who has alleged Arindams film to be a
Bheja Fry rip-off, said, My story is on the lines of
Bheja Fry and Arindam has copied it.
Ashare Goppo is a lift. I am sure EIMPA will look into the matter.
When CT asked the Arindam, he explained, Sachet Sarafs allegations are baseless.
Ashare Goppo is based on a telefilm,
Friday Chiken, which I wrote in 2008. Sachet registered his story in 2012. So, who is a copycat? Now, Sachet, who has not made a single film so far, is saying that his story is inspired from
Bheja Fry and my film is a copy. How absurd is that? Im glad EIMPA has taken a neutral stand and called a three-member team to examine whether my film is a rip-off. Im confident about my movie and 100% sure that it is an original story, said Arindam.
Producer Rana Sarkar, however, has decided to reserve his comment till the verdict is out. He said, It has become a trend of sorts to pull down directors who try to work on original stories. Arindams story is original and not a copy-paste job. Watch this space for more!
