Arindam Sil starts shooting for his dream project, Mahananda

Arindam Sil has finally started shooting for

Mahananda

from April 12. The film stars Gargee Roychowdhury, Debshankar Haldar, Isha Saha in leading roles. “This is one of my most

challenging shoots

till date. Mahananda is the story of this passing on of the torch. The torchbearers from different ages who carry forward the concept, the movement named Mahashweta. It is a story of giving direction to our lives in this time of social-political unrest. We will show the time frame of 1900 to 2011 in the film, which is a huge range. So, the situation, colour pallet and everything else in the film will change according to the time frame. Ayon Sil, our cinematographer is doing a brilliant job. We started our shoot from north Kolkata and today we are shooting in a studio. After completing the Kolkata portion of the shoot, we will be heading towards Birbhum,” said the director, adding “In this film, we have taken actors with theatre backgrounds. Only Isha is not from the theatre. Gargee as

Mahashweta Devi

is doing a swell job and so are all other actors.”
Talking about Mahashweta Devi, Arindam said, “Mahashweta Devi is just not an author but she is more than that. Our film is about a movement called Mahashweta Devi. Today when we talk about gender equality or woman empowerment, we forget that she talked about it years ago. She was the one who spoke about

Santhals

women. We will incorporate all these in our film.”
