Anuradha Mukherjee, to understand the real definition of
independence
one must focus on mental
freedom
. She insists otherwise it will only remain an idea, an ideology that forms the base of any kind of social reform.
“When I hear the word independence the first thing that comes to my mind is mental freedom. There are so many of us who still hold on to the conservative thinking process. That’s why we can’t put our faith in the idea of equality. If we can free our minds from these age-old beliefs we will be able to understand what equality is and this racist, sexist thinking will be banished from society. We will be able to live in a society that’s progressive,”
Anuradha shares with ETimes adding that freedom should be an act of progressive mind that can free us from all inhibitions.
Speaking about the childhood memories of Independence Day, the actress recalls, “There are so many memories related to
Independence Day celebrations in my school days but the one that I still cherish is being a part of the cultural group I used to be active in dance performances. Now, I cherish those memories and think those were the best days and I wish I could go back to my school days. Then we all used to think when we will grow up, but now, like many others I think why did I grow up?”
