He started off his career as an actor with Chalchitro (Kaleidoscope) in the ’80s, and was seen in films by greats like Mrinal Sen, Buddhadeb Dasgupta, Nabyendu Chatterjee, Aparna Sen and others. Anjan Dutt, who turned into a full-fledged musician in the ’90s and turned to filmmaking after that, remains one of the best actors of our time. This year alone, Dutt will be seen in six films. While Ami Ashbo Phirey, Finally Bhalobasha and Uma have already hit the theatres, Ahare Mon is set for release on June 22.
1x1 polls
In the second half of the year, Dutt will be seen in two films — Ek Je Chilo Raja and Byomkesh Gotro. The actor, who is lapping up all the praise coming his way with Uma, is in a happy space. Only recently, he told us in an interview, “With Rituparno (Ghosh), the cultured Bengalis returned to mainstream cinema. Then teachers, TV producers, journalists, doctors walked into commercial cinema and made movies that were not Paglu or Beder Meye Jyotsna. That feels so good. Today, I see a much more successful director saying, ‘Wow you are a damn good actor’, Of course, there‘s competition, but I feel comfortable with my peers. I never felt comfortable with Swapan Saha, Anjan Chowdhury or that milieu. This is the Tollywood where I belong.”
