Anjan Das to remake Monpura
Even as heawaits the verdict of the Central Board of Film Certification and theavailability of theatres to release his film, plans for his next ventures arealready underway. While he is ready to talk about his adaptation of TarashankarBandopadhyays Bedeni, the director prefers reticence when it comes tonews of his remake of a Bangladeshi film.Sources say that Das isscheduled to remake one of the biggest commercials hits of Bangladesh titledMonpura. The Bangladeshi film, directed by Gias Uddin Selim, is based on thefolklore of Myanmensingh Geetika. The plot revolves around the life of man wholived on an island named Monpura. He left from a city to the island because hiseccentric cousin killed a woman and his uncle took him to Monpura. There he fellin love with the daughter of a sailor. But destiny had different plans and thefilm explores the life and love of these two characters. Industrysources claim that Das was approached by Kamal Bansal to direct this remake.Shooting is expected to begin in the second week of November. Since theoriginal Bangladeshi film was a huge hit even in terms of music, the makers arekeen on using Bangladeshi musicians to compose the tracks for the film. The original film had Chanchal Chowdhury, Farhana Mili, Fazlur Rahman Babu and Mamunur Rashid in the cast. None of these actors, however, have been pencilled in for Das remake. While Debesh Roychowdhury and Chhanda Chatterjee are supposed to have been approached for the film, word has it that Das is also very keen on casting Manali of Bou Katha Kou fame to play the female lead. Its tough to get Manalis dates for shooting this film since all her bulk dates have been allotted for the shooting of the megaserial. All efforts are being made so that she can squeeze time out for this film, informs an industry insider.Manali, on her part, confirms the news that she has been offered the film. Nothing has beenfinalised as yet. We are trying hard to work out my dates. Id love to dothis film, she says.Das, however, is reluctant to divulgemore till everything has been finalized. Instead, he speaks about his petproject a big screen adaptation of Bedeni. Ritwik Ghatak wassupposed to have adapted Bedeni. But, the film never happened. I have managed toget the rights to make this film. Shooting should begin in February next year. Its a story of a womans lust. She meets men only to fulfil hercarnal desires. But eventually, she meets with a tragedy when both the men inher life die in a fire. The film will be done in a grand scale. RituparnaSengupta, who is producing the film, will play the lead. Im also castingRajesh Sharma. Besides, Im also speaking to Indraneil Sengupta andPriyanshu Chatterjee for this project.
