Anirban Bhattacharya will be seen in Srijit Mukherji’s two back to back films – ‘Ek Je Chhilo raja’ and ‘Shah Jahan Regency’. While the first one is a period drama based on the infamous 1975 ‘Bhawal sanyasi’ court case the second film is a reboot of Shankar's all-time great novel ‘Chowringhee’.
While elaborating on his character in ‘Ek Je Chhilo Raja’, Anirban said: “I am playing the Bhawal Raja’s brother-in-law.

I can say the script of this film is much closer to reality. With full respect, I can say Uttam Kumar’s ‘Sanyasi Raja had a story which was mostly fictitious. But ‘Ek Je Chhilo Raja’ is based on ‘A Princely Imposter’ by Partha Chatterjee. Srijit offered me both ‘Uma’ and this role at the same time. Initially I was supposed to play another character. But I have no regret about the change in role.”
Featuring Jisshu Sengupta in the titular role, ‘Ek Je Chhilo Raja’ also stars Jaya Ahsan, Aparna Sen, Rundranil Ghosh, Anjan Dutta, Rajnandini Paul and others.
The 1975 Bhawal Sanyasi case involved an impostor who claimed he was the second kumar of Bhawal. The court case ultimately came to a surprising decision that the person was the prince indeed.
Ek Je Chilo Raja’ is set to release on October 12.
