Amrita has started shooting for Debotaar Graash

Amrita Chattopadhyay, who was last seen in Ahaa Re starring Rituparna Sengupta and Arifin Shuvoo, has already begun shooting for her next — Saibal Mitra’s

Debotaar Graash

. The film is an adaptation of the play, Inherit the Wind, by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E Lee, and features veteran actors Soumitra Chatterjee and Naseeruddin Shah as two rival lawyers. The story is set in Hillolganj, a township, where majority of the inhabitants belong to the Adivasi community and are Christians by religion. There, Kunal Joseph, a science professor, denies teaching The Genesis of the Bible before science. This leads to communal tension in the area as Kunal is a Hindu. Amrita plays the pastor’s daughter, who initiates a legal case against her boyfriend, Kunal. Amrita, who joined the unit on May 9, said she is doing her best to save herself from the extreme heat. “To keep myself hydrated, I am having plenty of liquids. Apart from glucose water, I am also having Darjeeling tea that has light liquor. For lunch, I had very little rice and sabzi. The heat is making it difficult to gorge on an elaborate meal. I am just having enough food to keep me going,” she told us. To get into the shoes of a Christian girl, Amrita went through the script several times. “Since I play a Christian girl, I need to understand certain rituals better,” she had told us ahead of the shoot. The film is currently being shot at indoor locations, but there are outdoor schedules as well.
