The coronavirus pandemic worldwide has brought an uncertainty to one of Bengalis’ biggest festivals —
Durga
Puja. This year, we celebrated Poila Boishakh too by staying under the
lockdown
and it is heard that Ratha Yatra celebrations are also going to get affected. But not only
Bengalis
, even goddess Durga,
Lord Shiva
and their four children — Saraswati, Lakshmi, Kartik and Ganesh — too all are tensed to come to the planet Earth, according to filmmaker
Saikat Sarkar
. Yes, you read that right. Saikat is directing a short film, Swarge Corona, which revolves around how gods and goddess are worried about their visit during the Durga puja this year.
Akash Bhattacharya
, son of singer Manomay Bhattacharya, is debuting in this short film. It will also feature actors Krishnendu Chatterjee, Pallabi Mukherjee, Subhadip Ghosh, Neha Das and Sumana Sen. Akash will be playing the hole
Narod Muni
in the short film. Talking about the film, the director said, “What would the gods and godesses do in this dire hour of distress? As the coronavirus pandemic has shaken the world apart, Maa Durga is in a tough spot. Maa Saraswati has left her education. Meanwhile, Narod Muni is tensed on how to spend his days inside the house. The Almighty is exasperated. But, what's the assurance lord Brahma gives them? That’s what the short is all about. It has been shot completely on mobile phones by the actors without flouting the norms of the lockdown and social distancing.
Swarge Corona
is a story on the gods and goddess in heaven and will release online today.”
Akash, too, is excited to be a part of the short film. He said, “It's a great experience indeed. Since I had never acted before, so it was fun portraying Narod Muni in this short film."
