Ahaa Re

’ has been lapped up by the Bengali cine buffs, it has also earned independent filmmaker Ranjan Ghosh a series of prestigious festival laurels. Now, the latest official selection for ‘Ahaa Re’ is the Singapore South Asian International Film Festival which is scheduled for a August 30 opening. The relationship drama will be screened under the Showcase section.

What comes to your mind when you hear ‘Ahaa Re’? ‘Ahaar’ that means food, and a word to sympathize one adjusting to the tribulations of love. Ranjan Ghosh’s latest offering touches down both aspects. It weaves around the relationship between a young chef from Dhaka Farhaz (Arifin Shuvoo) and a home-delivery cook Basundhara (Rituparna Sengupta) in Kolkata.


We often say that food is like an emotion to bind us all. ‘Ahaa Re’ bridges the gap between two souls from different culture, class, religions and countries. The bond strengthens through a shared passion for cooking. Food and cooking become the catalyst of an emotionally drenched poignant love story.

Such is the overwhelming response from the audience that it has made Ranjan and Rituparna Sengupta, who is also the producer apart from playing the female lead in film, plan a sequel to ‘Ahaa Re’.
