Competition over making films on Bengal’s iconic sleuth characters has become a new trend these days. Earlier it was Saradindu Bandyopadhyay’s
Byomkesh Bakshi
and now it’s a tussle between producers over Suchitra Bhattacharya’s female detective character
Mitin Masi
.
Last year there were reports suggesting Tollywood’s hit director duo
Shiboprosad Mukherjee and
Nandita Roy will be producing a film based on Mitin Masi. Rituparna Sengupta was supposed to play the titular role. But later Shiboprosad-Nandita revealed they will take time to make this film.
Then producer Himangshu Dhanuka announced he has the rights of a number of stories from the Mitin Masi series and soon a full length feature film will be made on the detective character but somehow it got shelved. Now, we hear the film might go on the floors at the end of this year and Himangshu has already spoken to
Parambrata Chatterjee about the project.
Interestingly, Rupa Dutta, producer of ‘Nilachole Kiriti’, Happy Pill’, ‘Kishore Kumar Junior’, also the rights of a few stories of Mitin Masi. According to industry sources, she doesn’t want to delay her project as well and has already spoken to
Arindam Sil. If all goes according to plan, the film will go on floors within two months.
Going by the trend at Bengali box office, thrillers are doing pretty well almost every time hitting the bull’s eye. So, with an interesting female sleuth character like Mitin Masi in the reserve, producers are more than happy to taste their luck.
