An unusual pairing is the key to Anindya Ghoshs next, Thammar Boyfriend. The director, who last made Bharate, has roped in veteran actress Sabitri Chatterjee and Abir Bomkesh Chatterjee to play a couple in what he sums up as a comedy and feel-good drama.

The film is about septuagenarian Nandini Mitra (Sabitri) a widow living in a big mansion in Debimongolpur. She is the inheritor of a huge property from her husbands side, yet happens to be a loner. Both her son and daughter are settled in Kolkata; both are so busy that the mother-child bond is reduced to occasional phone calls on some weekends.
One day, the two siblings receive a letter from Nandini announcing her intention to re-marry. She requests them to come over so that she can discuss her wedding plans. Stunned by the turn of events, they rush to Debimongolpur to find out what lies ahead. Partho, played by Abir, is the man Nandini wishes to marry.
Thammar Boyfriend is a roller-coaster ride that goes on to answer several questions, like who Partho really is and why did he agree to marry Nandini. The concept came to my mind quite a few months back. Kan Singh Sodha has helped me put it all together. Shrikantda (Mohta) too helped us with valuable inputs. Next, Padmanava Dasgupta was roped in as the script doctor to refine the screenplay further, says Anindya. Apart from Sabitri Chatterjee and Abir, the film also features Arunima Ghosh, Biswajit Chakraborty, Dolon Roy, Supriyo Dutta and Sudipa Basu. Arunima had earlier worked with Anindya in Bharate.
