Abbar Kanchanjangha | TRAILER | Raajhorshee De | Bengali Film Releasing on 1st April 2022
But why the film has been named Kanchenjungha? Did the inspiration come from the turmoil of a particular family with
Darjeeling as the backdrop or the magic of Satyajit Ray that was woven, presenting the cluster of peaks that remain side by side, and yet are very different from each other? How different is Raajhorshee De’s ‘Abbar Kanchenjungha’ from Ray’s Kanchenjungha?
Raajhorshee tried to weave a story of Darjeeling, Christmas and Kanchenjungha in his film paying homage to Satyajit Ray.
Ray’s ‘Kanchenjungha’, the 1962 Bengali classic, which had the enriched cinematography of his trusted hand Subrata Mitra, was all about a Bengali family vacationing in Darjeeling and had captured the beauty of the hills.
"Our film is a direct tribute to the master. Abar Kanchanjhungha’ is a celebration of life.” The director shares with ETimes.
"It's a complete family film celebrating nostalgia, Bangaliana, Christmas celebrations in the enchanting location of Darjeeling with Kanchenjhungha as a background. I wanted to tell a story of a family which still believes in magic and miracles, still celebrates the nostalgia of being together, eating together and spending Christmas together. Films like Kanchenjungha, Utsab inspired me a lot to tell this story," De added.
‘Abar Kanchanjhungha’ has an ensemble cast including
Kaushik Sen,
Saswata Chatterjee, Tnusree Chakraborty,
Anindya Chatterjee, Rahul Arunoyday Banerjee, Bidipta Chakraborty and
Padmanabha Dasgupta among others. The film will also see singer Rupankar Bagchi in a key role.
"I have tried my best to retain the flavour of ‘Kanchenjungha’ in each and every frame," the director said, while Saswata Chatterjee says he instantly liked the story as the way it has been scripted is great.
