A special tribute to late
Rituparno Ghosh has been organized by ‘Ditthi’ on his 55th birth anniversary on August 31 at Sir Ashutosh Memorial Auditorium. The event titled ‘Songe Rituparno: A Musical of Emotions’, conceived and presented by Saumya De, is a collage of late Rituparno Ghosh’s selected writings, lyrics penned by the film-maker, and songs of
Rabindranath Tagore.
The late filmmaker’s insightful utterances and profound emotions still drive us to sense the essential human being within ourselves and gradually evolve into a better one. 'Songe Rituparno' is thus a collage of emotions of a life – a life that has inspired and strengthened several others.
Apart from the cultural program, Saumya De has ideated another innovative presentation, an audio magazine on Rituparno Ghosh (titled 'Aamar Rituparno'), the first of its kind, which will be released at the event.
Rituparno Ghosh, often termed as the young avant-garde director of
Bengali
cinema in the 1990s, literally heralded the present Renaissance of Bengali films. He ushered a movement in which filmmakers such as
Anjan Dutt,
Koushik Ganguly
, Srijit Mukherji and others pulled Bengali industry back into the elite class of Satyajit Ray and Mrinal Sen. The national award-winning film director breathed his last on May 30, 2013.
