Promita Bhowmik
whose short film ‘Porichoy’ (The Identity) fetched accolades recently at several prestigious international film festivals has come up with yet another interesting
poetry
film titled ‘
Apeksha
’ (The Waiting).
The 8-minute long short is based on a Bengali poem written by the director herself. Speaking about the concept of her poetry film Promita says, “It’s an eternal waiting of a woman, experiencing a journey into life, love and beyond through her memories. It is inevitable and more certain than her death itself. That’s what ‘Apeksha’ is all about."
While the poetry, screenplay and direction are by Promita, the video features
Shubhashree Chatterjee
as the protagonist and poetry reading by
Sukriti Lahori
. Cinematography is by Raktim Mondal, music by Joell Mukherjii white the short has been edited by Chinangshuk Chandra and sound design by Sanjoy Ghosh.
‘Apeksha’ has already traveled some prestigious film festivals including the
Berlin
flash film festival,
Video Poetry
festival in
Greece
, semifinalist in Leloun International film festival and International video poetry festival in
Athens
.
The director is now planning to make a feature film, for which the script is ready. This would be a women-centric story, dealing with some deep-rooted social issues of patriarchy. Initial pre-production for the project has already started.
