‘Exhibitor exhibitor cinema hall e jabo,
Exhibitor exhibitor tumi ki ar cinema nie bhabo!!’

This rhythmic play of words may invite a hearty laugh for its innocence but on second thoughts it sounds like the last resort in a gritty battle. And that’s exactly how filmmaker Soukarya Ghosal is appealing to the decision makers. In spite of rave reviews and audience applause, his film

Rainbow Jelly

is faced with a strange fight.
Like the central character in the film, Ghoton, Soukarya’s journey has been less than a fairy tale. An untimely exit from city’s multiplexes, with the current two show timings at

South City

(2.35 pm) and

Highland Park

(5.55 pm) that are odd, the film is still looking forward to realising a dream run at the box office. “Even as we speak, the film is running houseful at South City. This weekend our shows have done really well. We had four shows at first and they were all running to almost packed houses. South City was houseful on Sunday. Lake Mall did exceedingly well too. Although we have only two shows now, they have above 80% occupancy even on weekdays. The best part is, Rainbow Jelly, in its third week, has fulfilled the criteria required to increase the number of shows. I am extremely hopeful that with this kind of audience support, my film will get more screens in the coming days,” said Soukarya.
It’s not only the audience and critics, industry insiders like Mir and Anindya Chatterjee have gone all out with their support on social media. The film will be screened at Satyajit Ray Film Society, Bengaluru, onJune 10. The filmmaker hopes to take off from here after battling the third week successfully.
