A film that aims to redefine love

Dikshita Das’s film, Promise, which stars Sabyasachi Chakrabarty, Udita Das and Biplab Keshari Mohanty, revolves around a father, a daughter, and her boyfriend. A tribute to love and longings, the story dwells on how distance should never grow more than love.
It starts with an emotionally distraught girl (Joyita), who, unable to cope with her lover’s (Neel) hectic work schedule, lets the vulnerable side of her take charge. She has a very heartfelt conversation with her father (Uday), who is like a friend to her. However, upon sensing that his daughter is sad on Valentine’s Day, he offers to narrate a story. The story ultimately proves to be life-changing for her, as it delves deep into the human psyche and describes the true meaning of love beyond physical presence and not just romance. It brings out the subtle nuances of a relationship and finally ends with a message of accepting the person, situation, and most importantly, keeping misapprehensions at bay.

“In the film, Sabyasachi Chakrabarty teaches us the true meaning of the promise. It clearly shows that when we promise something to someone, we actually promise ourselves first. So, it's majorly how seriously you take yourself rather than the other person. Promise is more a self-character-defining word rather than just an act of love or otherwise,” Dikshita told us.
