Durnibar Saha made us fall for Bengali film music yet again with mellifluous ‘Monta Ahare’ from Pratim D Gupta’s ‘Ahare Mon’ and as the year is coming to an end, Arnab Dutta's melodious ‘Tapur Tupur’ from ‘Rosogolla’ and the heart-wrenching ‘Kichchu Chini Aami’ sang by actor Anirban Bhattacharya from ‘Shah Jahan Regency’ is ruling all the music charts. Take a look at the 10 best Bengali songs of 2018. We bet you can’t stop humming!

‘Eso Hey’ from ‘Ek Je Chhilo Raja’

The first song ‘Esho Hey’ from ‘Ek Je Chhilo Raja’ has become a runaway hit delving deep into Indian classical music with ‘raag Kedar’. The beautiful composition from Indraadip Das Gupta and Srijato’s soulful lyrics encapsulates the colonial ‘rajokiyo’ essence. The best thing about the latest track is obviously the sweet voice of Shreya Ghoshal and Ishan Mitra. Shreya Ghoshal’s talent needs no introduction but the way a newbie like Ishan Mitra has supported her is no doubt commendable.

The romantic song won millions of hearts turning out to be one of the biggest hits Bengali film music this year. Durnibar just made us fall in love with music all over again with this mellifluous track. Much like Pratim D Gupta’s film itself, the music of ‘Ahare Mon’ is a treat to the musical ears.

‘Hariye Jawar Gaan’ from ‘Uma’

It’s the first song from ‘Uma’ that was released online and it turned out to be a melody for every soul. Written, composed, and sang by none other than Anupam Roy, ‘Hariye Jawar Gaan’ smashed every record topping the music charts. Featuring Jisshu Sengupta, Sayantika, Srabanti Chatterjee and a cute little Sara Sengupta, the video gives glimpse of what the pivotal characters go through in this film. The Srijit Mukherji directorial is an emotional drama in which a desperate father tries to create Durga Puja of Kolkata before its time for his terminally ill child to breathe her last breath.

The song features the three key players of the film Prosenjit Chatterjee, Rituparna Sengupta and Churni Ganguly. It also gives a hint of the relationship between these three leading characters. ‘Ruthey Naina’ from ‘Ek Je Chhilo Raja’

To make your taste for classical music more special, here’s a perfect song ‘Ruthey Naina from Srijit Mukherji’s ‘Ek Je Chhilo Raja’. This Thumri has been beautifully composed by Indraadip Das Gupta and penned by Srijato. Eminent classical singer Kaushiki Chakraborty’s soulful voice makes it even more soothing. It’s no doubt a delight for music lovers to enjoy her voice in such a wonderful composition. The alaap portion in the beginning of the song is too good and actually sets mood for the rest of this classical song.

‘Bhule Jeo’ from ‘Generation Aami’

It’s an emotional track and quite different from the other songs from the film. The rest of the songs are more fast paced exploring the emotions of the central character Apu played by Rwitobroto Mukherjee. But ‘Bhule Jeo’ is a slow paced sad song showing the emotional breakdown of Apu’s cousin Durga played by Sauraseni Maitra. Written by Prasen and composed by Arindom Chatterjee, the emotional track becomes more special with Amrita Singh’s soulful voice. The song starts with a sargam sung by Amrita and it will make you feel for Durga right away. This soulful rendition can touch your heart instantly. Give it a try and you will no doubt like it.

‘Ke Ami Kothay’ from ‘Ek Je Chhilo Raja’

‘Ke Ami Kothay’ comes with a haunting melody composed by Indraadip Das Gupta the significant lyrics by Srijato. The magically heartwarming number has been sung by the man with a gifted voice Arijit Singh. It tries to explore the psychological aspects of the titular character of Raja Mahendra Kumar Chowdhury who had to fight a prolonged court case to prove his own identity. Who is he? Is he a prince, a sanyasi or an impostor? What’s his true identity? All these questions make the song more interesting.

The video captures different phases from the Bhawal prince’s life and no doubt Jisshu Sengupta looks very much convincing in all of these sequences with his intense look, costume and expressions.

‘Tomar Pasher Desh’ from ‘Bijoya’

When it’s a combination of composer Indraadip Das Gupta and singer Arijit Singh, the result is no doubt a treat to our musical years. The latest song ‘Tomar Pasher Desh’ from Kaushik Ganguly’s upcoming ‘Bijoya’ is no exception after the hit jodi’s superb bonding in ‘Apur Panchali’. Indraadip-Arijit’s pairing has never disappointed us delivering so many hits over the years and with this latest track they once again create a magical experience. Indraadip uses a minimal musical arrangement and allows Arijit’s voice to take over in ‘Tomar Pasher Desh’. The singing sensation has done full justice with Indraadip’s brilliant arrangement with his excellent vocals.

‘Tui Ki Kore Dili’ from ‘Ghare And Baire’

This heart wrenching melodious track by Anupam Roy became an internet sensation as soon as it was launched. Weaving the different nuances of a youthful romantic relationship, a fresh urban touch in the tune seems to be the USP of the song. It’s about a young lad falling in love with a girl madly. The romantic number comes with an upbeat, peppy vibe supporting perfectly the pop soundtrack. ‘Tui ki kore dili’ also narrates the way a girl has made this guy’s life a complete mess.

‘Tapur Tupur’ from ‘Rosogolla’

Composed, written and sung by Arnab Dutta, it's a heartwarming, melodious track with lots of innocence filled in it. For ‘Rosogolla’, Pavel had to recreate the old Kolkata and this song gives a glimpse of the same. The song is still ruling the charts and shows why ‘Rosogolla’ has been termed as ‘mishti prem er galpo’. The fictional biopic captures the journey of Nabin Chandra Das, from a humble background to a business tycoon.
