Srijit Mukherji’s recently released ‘Gumnaami’. He is received appreciation from all corners for taking up the challenge of enacting the role of such an iconic figure. But only a few people know his father, yesteryear’s superstar Biswajit had also essayed the role of Netaji.
During a recent chat about his film ‘Gumnaami’, the Tollywood superstar shared his fond childhood memories involving Netaji.
“During my childhood I was taught Netaji is our ultimate hero. In our school when we used to celebrate Independence Day every year every time we used to see there was a picture of Netaji. I had heard so many stories about Netaji’s bravery and sacrifice from my parents. Even my father was a huge admirer of Subhas Chandra Bose and he even played Netaji in a series,” revealed Prosenjit.
Biswajit had previously made a documentary 'Amar Netaji' and a Bengali TV serial 'Netaji Subhash'.
Produced by SVF, ‘Gumnaami’ is a film based on the Mukherjee Commission Hearings which happened from 1999 to 2005 where the three theories about Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose`s death were discussed and debated. It is a dramatization of the hearings where an investigative journalist supporting the Gumnaami Baba theory locks horns with the official lawyer who supports the plane crash theory. In their clash, the Death in Russia theory also comes up.
