Is Priya Cinema mulling other options?
With the future still uncertain after a fire broke out in its premises on August 5, city’s one of the most popular single screen theatres Priya Cinema is believed to be mulling other options to continue business. Film screenings at the theatre are still being suspended since the fire.
However, Priya Cinema owner Arijit Dutta insists they have took care of all the required changes as per the recommendations from fire department.

But the sad part is the inspection is still pending despite informing them on September 9.
‘Even when the theatre is shut, I am still paying a monthly electricity bill of almost 2 lakhs and we have no business from the hall since that fire. Staff salaries for September are yet to be paid. We have to understand single screen theatres don’t earn as much as the multiplexes,” a frustrated Arijit revealed.
“We have already had a number of talks within our family on continuing film screenings in the theatre in future. My family wants to continue Priya Cinema as a theatre but if the situation doesn’t improve I may have to put up the 45,000sqft property for rent, for some other events to handle the running expenses.,” he added.
